Operating System: Android 9.0 Pie

Scanning old photos which are quite small. Printer supports 1200 dpi but i can only choose up to 300dpi i need higher for the quality of the images.

True - HP Smart Mobile provides fewer options than are available in the printer software for Windows / MacOS.

There is no "workaround" - you need a different tool (software) to access what the printer can do.

 

If you can get a hold of a PC or Mac and run the printer software, you can access more DPI options.

Scanning specifications

The following specifications provide information that can help you understand the scanning capability of the printer regarding scan speeds, Twain capability, scan resolutions, scan sizes, and color reproduction.
  • Scan speeds vary that according to the complexity of the document
    note:
    Because the scanner must travel farther, scanning might take longer with documents or photos longer than 8.5 inches.
  • Twain-compliant software interface (Windows only)
  • Resolution: 1200 x 1200 pixels per inch (ppi) optical
  • Color: 24-bit color, 8-bit grayscale (256 levels of gray)
  • Maximum scan size from glass: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14.0 inches)
  • Maximum scan size from ADF: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14.0 inches)
  • Scan options:
    • Scan to e-mail for PDF and JPEG
    • Scan to PC
