White lines are now appearing on my photo scans. I have reset my printer, cleaned the scan screen, changed my settings, and it is still there. How do I fix that?

@Carlnterry, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like the issue with white lines in your scans could be related to the scanner itself, even after you've already cleaned the scan surface and reset the printer. Here are some steps you can try to address the issue:

Check for Physical Obstructions or Dirt on the scanner glass.

Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.

Carefully inspect the scanner glass (the flatbed area where you place documents for scanning) for any remaining dirt, dust, or even small pieces of debris that might not have been removed during cleaning.

Clean the glass again using a soft, lint-free cloth with a small amount of glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Make sure it’s not too wet, as moisture can cause smudges or streaks.

Check the scanner lid as well; sometimes dirt or smudges on the lid can cause lines to appear in your scans.

Clean the Scanner’s White Document Sheet (Under the Glass)

On some printers, there is a white sheet (reflective plate) under the scanner glass, and dirt on this sheet can lead to scanning issues, including lines.

If your model has this, gently clean it with a microfiber cloth or a damp cloth, making sure to avoid getting any moisture in areas where it shouldn't be.

Update Printer Drivers

Ensure your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause scanning issues.

Go to the HP website, find the latest driver for your model (HP ENVY 6458e), and download and install the latest version.

Test Scanning with a Different Document

Try scanning a completely different document or photo to see if the issue persists. This can help rule out whether the problem is with the specific image or if it’s a broader scanner problem.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
