We have a HP Envy Photo 7833 All in one Printer Scanner Fax. Only thing that works is the Printer

If your HP Envy Photo 7833 All-in-One Printer is printing fine but the scanner and fax functions aren't working, here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Use HP Smart App's Diagnose & Fix Tool

HP Smart includes a built-in tool that can automatically detect and fix issues with scanning and faxing.

  1. Download or open the HP Smart app: HP Smart
  2. Open the app and select your printer.
  3. Click the wrench icon (Windows) or printer dropdown (Mac).
  4. Select Diagnose & Fix and follow the on-screen instructions.

Troubleshoot Scanner Issues

If scanning fails or the computer can't detect the scanner:

  • Ensure the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Restart both the printer and your computer.
  • Try scanning using the HP Smart app or Windows Fax and Scan.
  • If using Windows, check for scanner errors:

Troubleshoot Fax Issues

If faxing doesn’t work:

Run a Fax Test:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Fax > Setup > Run Fax Test.
  • Review the report and follow any instructions.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure the phone line is connected to the 1-LINE port.
  • If using an answering machine, connect it to the 2-EXT port.

Adjust Fax Settings:

  • Lower fax speed to “Slow” or “Standard”.
  • Enable Error Correction Mode.
  • Set Auto Answer to ON.
  • Use black & white mode for compatibility.

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset can fix internal errors:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and power on.
