Your scan program wants me to connect to the internet in order to scan a document. I have read you can get around this requirement but I don't know how. How can I scan without internet connection?

Welcome to the HP User Community.

 

If "your scan program" is HP Smart, then, yes - HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.  The "Internet" is only necessary when you wish to take advantage of the features that require your connection to your Cloud storage or perhaps Cloud based tools.   When none of these internet based features are needed, a connection to your local network will suffice.

 

There are two parts to the Printer Software:

  • HP Smart application - supports printing and scanning PDF and Photos / Images.  HP Smart is supported in many regions and on many newer networked printers - The app is available from the  Microsoft Store .  HP Smart requires that you sign in using your HP Account credentials.
  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in programs (for example, Word), and access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver printer software includes HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

Don't worry its not a big issue. You could fix it easily just by updating your drivers. As recently I was scanning some important documents of tech reviews which is just a type of script for laptop reviews. But the hp officejet printer which we are using in our office was showing the same issue. I connected the internet and the driver get updated and the issue got fixed. So just update your printer driver it will be fix.
