HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe Printer

When attempting to scan a document from either the glass or the feeder, the scanned document has black horizontal lines on it. I have tried all the options available to me, including cleaning the glass, the rollers, etc. Any advice?

Hi @LM1706,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're seeing horizontal black lines on scanned documents from your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe, it could be due to a few different issues. Since you've already cleaned the glass and rollers,

here are some additional steps you might take:

  • Check for Streaks on the Glass: Ensure the scanner glass is completely clean and free of any smudges or streaks. Sometimes, even tiny specks can cause lines to appear on the scan.
  • Inspect the Scanner Glass and White Sheet: There might be a white sheet (called the "white reference strip") that the scanner uses to calibrate. Make sure it’s clean and free of any marks or damage.
  • Check the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder): If you're using the ADF, inspect the rollers and the glass underneath the ADF. Sometimes dust or debris can cause issues with scanning.
  • Perform a Scanner Calibration: Many printers have a built-in calibration or alignment tool. Check your printer’s menu or software for an option to calibrate or align the scanner.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix issues with scanning. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check for Physical Damage: Look for any visible damage to the scanner components, including the scanner head and the glass.
  • Run Diagnostic Tests: Some printers come with diagnostic tests or self-cleaning functions. Refer to your printer's manual to see if there’s a diagnostic test for the scanner.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
