Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
Example: PavilioDeskjet 4155n 6530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Using 4155 set scanner to Document Feeder and set all other POSSIBLE settings.  Have NEVER been given option to select where scans go.  Select document type as document (not photo).  Scan.  As soon as complete the entire HP program closes and I have no idea where the scans go.  Have checked Photos, Documents, Downloads.  Never given a chance to name so can't do an Advanced Search.  I am not a novice, this is just a terrible piece of equipment.  HELP!  Just need to get through this big (HUGE) scan project and then I will throw away this device.

Welcome to the HP Community.

The only important answer in this limited context:

If you are not given the opportunity to save the content after a scan,

If the software / application you are using suddenly collapses (crashes / stops) right after the physical scan completes,

The content is not saved.

Yeah, but...

Check in C:\Windows\Temp

Check in C:\Users\YourAccount\AppData\Local\Temp

List by latest (newest) entries and check what you find.

Reminder:  NOT all log files will let you list the content AND any currently active log file may balk at being read.  This is normal.

Which Printer Model??

It is unclear which exact printer you have - if you have an HP+ model, contact Concierge Support .  Please scroll to the end of this message for details.  Note that Concierge assistance is only for HP+ printers AND is likely only available during regular business days and times (weekdays during regular business hours).

What else?

The printer is unaware of the content it is printing - or, in this case, scanning.  The printer receives the instruction to scan and does that part.

The options you see during job submission - and the setups it can access - depend on whether you have the full driver installed (not just the HP Smart application).

The functionality, including whether the printer can complete assigned tasks, depend not only on the installed software but also on the connection to the network (type and stability).

Yeah, but...

It is certainly possible the printer is at fault mechanically.

If that is the case (large IF), nothing you do will make a difference.

If the printer is still in Warranty, contact HP Support.

OR

If the issue is

Missing, corrupt, outdated software or Firmware,

Connection issues (not ideal, less than stable, wrong SSID / network),

Job submission settings,

Then

The problems might be resolved and the printer can provide the level of service for which it is designed.

IF you have not done so...

One possible "might work" easy-to-do and semi-automatic option:  HP Print and Scan Doctor

Note:  Personally, I think you might want to try the "Offline" version of the Doctor - it might be slightly better at uncovering any connection / network issues.

Resource – Choose the right doctor for the job

Open Website

HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

Click the orange Download Now option / box

Wait!

If the problem / issue is one of

  • Printer is Offline
  • Cannot print in Color
  • Duplex printing has disappeared

THEN

Select / Answer question “Is print offline?” = YES

Answering Yes selects the “right doctor” version for these issues.

NOTES – The “Offline” doctor

As a result of repairing issues,

Offline / Color check / Duplex check version of the Doctor may replace the printer or add a “(Copy 1)” version of the driver in Devices and Printers.

If there are two printers in Devices and Printers,

If one of them does not work,

Try sending your job to the “Copy 1” named printer.

If you want / need to rename the “Copy 1” printer:

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer name > Printer Properties > Tab General >

In the top box, Edit the name of the printer (For example, remove the part that says “Copy 1”)

Click Apply / OK to save change

NOTE:  The name change may take a bit of time (a few minutes), else Restart the computer and log in.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Verify results.  If necessary, set the newly added / renamed printer as the default.

A secondary “Scan” printer may be added, that is, the “Do not Delete” driver / printer.  As it says, do not delete the entry.
