Every day (or sometimes several times in a day), printer acts like it is scanning a document, but, there's nothing in it to be scanned, and nobody on our network has requested a scan. This printer is used daily and there is ABSOLUTELY no need for any automated maintenance. I've been so creeped out by this that I actually changed the password on our network, but it keeps happening. How do I make it STOP??

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that your printer scans with out giving any scanning command, follow these steps to fix the issue.
Perform a power reset
- Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
- Turn on the printer.
Update the printer firmware
