Windows 11 Version 24H2 stopped Scanner connection

If your HP printer's scanner stopped working after updating to Windows 11 Version 24H2, you're not alone — this kind of issue can happen after major OS updates due to compatibility changes. Here's a way to fix it:

 

Check Scanner Status in Device Manager

  • Press Win + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Imaging devices or Printers.
  • Look for your scanner — if there's a yellow triangle or it's missing, there’s a driver issue.

Reinstall HP Printer Software (Full Solution)

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove your HP printer.
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers from HP’s support site.
  • Install it fresh (make sure the printer is connected during setup).

Reset Windows WIA & Print Spooler Services

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc.
  • Restart these services:
    • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • Print Spooler
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (must be running)
  • Right-click each service > Properties > Set Startup Type to Automatic.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Check for Windows Updates & Optional Drivers

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
  • Install any available driver updates under "Drivers".

Try Windows Fax and Scan or HP Smart

  • Use Windows Fax and Scan (press Win + S, type it).
  • Or reinstall/update HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
