How do I scan from the ADF on the Envy 7900?  I can't find a setting to select this preference.

Hi @BCNavigator,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Scanning from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on an HP Envy 7900 series printer involves a few steps and settings adjustments. If you're unable to find the setting to select the ADF, it could be due to several reasons, such as the printer software interface, the method you're using to initiate the scan (e.g., from the printer's control panel, a computer, or a mobile device), or even a temporary glitch. Here’s a general approach to scanning from the ADF on HP printers like the Envy 7900 series:

Ensure Paper is Loaded in the ADF Correctly: First, make sure your documents are properly loaded into the ADF tray. Fan the pages before placing them to avoid paper jams, and ensure the paper guides are snug but not too tight against the paper.

Check for Obstructions: Occasionally, small obstacles or debris in the ADF path can cause it not to be detected. Make sure there’s nothing obstructing the path where the paper feeds into the ADF.

Use the HP Printer Software: If you’re scanning from a computer, open the HP printer software on your computer. This software often provides more detailed scanning options than what you might find on the printer’s own control panel.

Select the Correct Source in the Scanning Software: Within the HP scanning software, look for an option to select the scan source. This is often found in the scan settings or preferences. You should have options such as “Flatbed” or “Document Feeder”. Make sure to select the option that refers to the ADF.

Update Printer Firmware and Software: Ensure your printer’s firmware and the HP printer software on your computer are up to date. HP regularly releases updates that can resolve unexpected issues or add new features.

HP Smart App: If you are trying to scan from a mobile device, use the HP Smart app. The app should give you the option to select the scan source when setting up a scan job.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
