HP needs to reply with clarity on how to get older printer/scanners to auto detect multiple photos in one scan.  The AI help is not effective.  There were supposed updates being worked on to restore auto detection in the driver software, but it is impossible to find out where this stands.  I have several HP printers that are now useless for my massive scanning work.  I gave away my older unit not knowing that this function was removed.

HP, where are you on this issue?

I phoned the HP scanner help line.  The  service folks were very polite but the Indian accents were difficult to understand They wanted $49 to give me an answer...if their answer worked.  Seems very not customer focused to not publish the fix for the drivers to these AIO units we have purchased from HP.  Can someone with HP actually provide a technical update on this issue?  Seems very logical and straightforward.  Does HP have a fix for the problem they created?  I read a lot of blogs with dates up to about 2016 with only third party potential work-arounds.

Like many others, I had older HP scanners that had the auto detect multi-photo capability, but now my Photosmart 6510, 6520, and Officejet 5258 do not.  Very disappointing.  Why can't HP provide a clear definitive answer to an issue like this?

Using the HP full-featured software, you may scan multiple documents/photos and combine them into one single document. This can be done if the file type is selected to be PDF.

You cannot scan multiple photos and combine to single document in JPEG format.

For more info on how to scan from a Win PC, refer to this document.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks, but the instructions/document you refer me to are only the standard how to scan instructions, nothing about auto detection.  My question continues to be how to auto detect scan multiple photos on the scan area at one time....not to scan individual photos and combine them into one pdf.  HP removed this capability from their software.  Some older units did this.  HP was supposed to be working on this.  Are all the current HP AIO's out there doomed to be without this function or is HP going to step up and fix it?  What is the real story on this issue.  It appears that HP is avoiding an answer to this very clear question.  As an HP employee you should be able to find out the facts.  I and many others are tired of the runaround.

The auto-detect feature while scanning is no longer available on the full-featured printer drivers. However, you may use the HP Scan Extended app to scan that includes Auto-detect feature.

Click here to download the app.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
