Hi @Paul930-_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer is no longer able to scan, even though it used to work, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Basics

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If you're using a USB connection, try a different USB port or cable. For network connections, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

2. Update or Reinstall Drivers

Update Printer Drivers: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715. Install the updated drivers to ensure compatibility.

Reinstall HP Software: Uninstall the current HP software from your computer and then reinstall it. This often resolves issues with scanning.

3. Check Scanner Settings

  • Scan Settings: Make sure the scanning settings on your printer and computer are configured correctly. Open the HP Scan software on your computer and verify the scan settings.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix scanning and printing issues.

5. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Antivirus/Firewall: Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall software to see if it’s blocking the scanning function. If scanning works with it disabled, you may need to adjust your security software settings.

6. Ensure the Scanner is Not in Use

  • Check for Other Scans: Ensure that the scanner is not being used by another application or process on your computer. Sometimes, a scanner being in use by another application can cause issues.

7. Reset  the Printer

  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can reset the printer to its factory settings. Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup, then Tools, and select Restore Defaults.

8. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Firmware Update: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Check for any available updates on the HP Support website and follow the instructions to update the firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
