Hi @rickydod,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 6430 can print but cannot scan. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and restore scanning.

Confirm the printer is fully connected to the network
Printing working confirms basic connectivity, but scanning needs two-way communication.
Make sure the printer and your phone/computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Restart the printer and device
Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
Restart your computer or mobile device, then power the printer back on.

Check scan function directly from the printer
Place a document on the scanner glass and try starting a scan from the printer panel (if available).
If scanning fails at the printer itself, the issue is printer-side, not the app.

Verify HP Smart app permissions
Open the HP Smart app settings on your device.
Ensure permissions for Camera, Microphone, Files, and Local Network are allowed.

Remove and re-add the printer in HP Smart
Open HP Smart, remove the Envy 6430 from the app, then close the app completely.
Reopen HP Smart and add the printer again to refresh scan services.

Check Windows Scan services (if using a computer)
Open Services and make sure Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is running.
Restart the service if it is already running.

Disable VPN, firewall, or security apps temporarily
VPNs and some security software block scan traffic even though printing works.
Turn them off briefly and test scanning again.

Reset the printer’s network settings
On the printer, restore network defaults (Wireless + Cancel buttons if available).
Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi and try scanning again.

Update firmware and HP Smart
Ensure the printer firmware is up to date from HP Smart.
Also confirm the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version.

I hope this helps.
