Hi @blowing,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you can print but are unable to scan to your Mac using the HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e All-in-One Printer, this guide will help you troubleshoot the issue. Follow these steps to resolve the scanning problem:

Check Software and Drivers

  • Ensure you have installed the latest version of the HP software for Mac. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.
  • Verify that your Mac meets the system requirements for the HP scanning software.

Check Printer Connection

  • Confirm that the printer is properly connected to your Mac either via USB or your local network. If you're using a network connection, ensure that both your Mac and printer are on the same network.
  • Check for any loose cables if you are using a direct USB connection.

Verify Network Configuration

  • If the printer is networked, ensure that the Firewall settings on your Mac are not blocking the scanner functionality. You may temporarily disable the firewall to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Sometimes, internal network configurations can prevent proper scanner functionality. You might want to test using a direct USB connection.

Use HP Easy Scan

  • Open the HP Easy Scan application on your Mac and check if you can scan directly through this application.
  • Also, check other scanning software alternatives like Image Capture or Preview to see if they work with your printer.

Restart Devices

  • Shut down your Mac and restart it.
  • Power off your printer and turn it on again.
  • After restarting both devices, attempt to scan once more.

Update Firmware

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP website or through the HP Smart app.

Take care and have an amazing day!
