Can't find my scans in my computer.  Tried to create a folder on my desktop, but can't find the scans.... not even in download manager.  (I'm 79 years old and not very "techie"!

Well, so far this has been no help whatsoever!  Can I chat with a real person?

Hi @Fireball4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let’s go step by step to help you locate your scanned files on your Windows computer.

Default Scan Folder

  • Most HP scanners save files automatically in the Pictures folder under a subfolder called Scans.
  • To check:
    • Open File Explorer (the folder icon on your taskbar).
    • Click on Pictures in the left panel.
    • Look for a folder named Scans.

Search by File Name or Type

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  • Type *.pdf or *.jpg (depending on whether your scans were saved as PDF or image).
  • This will show all files of that type on your computer. Look for the most recent ones.

Check the HP App Settings

  • Open the HP App you used for scanning.
  • Go to Settings or Preferences.
  • Look for the option called Save to or Destination Folder. This will tell you where scans are being stored.

Recent Files Shortcut

  • Press the Windows key again.
  • Type Recent files and open it.
  • This shows the latest files you worked with, including scans.

Creating a Folder for Easy Access

  • Once you find your scans, right-click on the file.
  • Select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
  • This will place a shortcut on your desktop so you can open the folder easily next time.
