Hi @bobwitejoe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer/scanner is not connecting to your desktop computer and that you’re unable to scan any documents at the moment. I understand how frustrating and inconvenient that can be, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check Connection Type

  • If you’re using Wi‑Fi:
  • Make sure your desktop is on the same 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network as the printer.
  • If your router merged 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, split them and connect both devices to 2.4 GHz.

  • If using USB:
  • Try a different USB port and cable.
  • Avoid hubs or extenders.

Clear Print Queue

  • On your PC, open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your printer → See what’s printing → cancel all jobs.
  • Restart the Print Spooler service (Win + R → services.msc → Print Spooler → Restart).

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to HP’s support site for your printer model.
  • Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers (not just the basic driver).
  • During installation, choose Wireless or USB setup depending on your connection.

Enable Network Functionality for Scanning:

  • If you are using network scanning features, ensure that you have enabled the scan to the computer via the printer software.
  • Open the HP printer software, click on "Print & Scan" and then "Manage Scan to Computer". Click "Enable".

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" tool from the HP website.
  • This tool can often automatically diagnose and fix common problems.

Take care and have an amazing day!
