I am trying to set up scanning with my HP Smart Tank 5101 printer but my computer can't find the printer with the HP Smart App.  I downloaded the printer but I can't get it to scan, it will print but won't scan.

If your HP Smart Tank 5101 printer can print but not scan, even though it's connected via HP Smart App, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the computer and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Check your network settings on both devices.
  • Make sure the printer is powered on and there are no sleep/idle settings activated.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both the printer and the computer. This can often resolve minor connection or communication issues.

Check HP App:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP App installed on your computer. Update it if necessary.
  • Remove and re-add the printer in the HP App to refresh the connection.

Printer Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure that the full-featured printer software and drivers are installed. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support page for the Smart Tank 5101.
  • Uninstall any previously installed versions before reinstalling the latest software to prevent any conflicts.

Firewall Settings:

  • Check the firewall settings on your computer. Sometimes firewalls can block communication between the computer and the printer. You may need to allow the app through the firewall.

Scan from Another Application:

  • Try scanning using a different software application like Windows Fax and Scan or third-party scanning software to see if the issue is specific to the HP Smart App.

Reinstall the HP App:

  • If the problem persists, uninstall the HP App, restart your computer, and then reinstall the app.
