HP used to make great products and I owned a lot of them, I still have inkjet printer/scanner with parallel port from 20 years ago that would work if it could be connected. With time HP products turned to **bleep**. Like everything else in this country. Make short term profit for investors at the price of skirting workers and customers. I have HP Neverstop 1202w that stopped far more often than any previous printer I had from HP and I already had to change the entire heart of it once because it started printing white lines over my documents. While the scanner works fine with my old (HP Envy) laptop, running Win 7, it works only through a Windows app on my new (Dell XPS) laptop, running Win 10, it doesn't work AT ALL on my desktop running Win 11. It is not recognized. Clicking on the scan icon makes NOTHING HAPPEN. No app for scanning works. It is useless. Garbage. Piece of plastic made in China. Contact me when you have an honest product on the market that will connect to my computer by wire, print and scan on the demand, after I install the drivers in dos/terminal from a disk, without any online bs, no web connectivity, no updates, promotions, just a dumb printer and scanner that WORKS, like in the old days. I won't buy anything from you again until you do that. Meanwhile, my son, who speaks C, Java, Python, R, etc. managed to make it work by installing some Linux app through terminal. Your customers should not be required to go through this. Your printers AND scanners should install automatically when connected to the computer. That all Neverstop line of products was a huge failure. And your web services are a horrible, useless pile of garbage.

Update Windows 11 to the Latest Build

Windows 11 version 24H2 introduced scanner communication issues for many USB-connected devices. Microsoft has released a fix in KB5060842. Please ensure your system is updated:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History
  • Confirm that KB5060842 is installed or that your OS build is 26100.4349 or higher

Install the Latest HP Drivers and Software

Use HP Easy Start to install the correct drivers and scanning software:

  • Disconnect VPN before downloading
  • Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions
  • Ensure the scanner is connected via USB or Wi-Fi during setup

Use HP Smart App with Diagnose & Fix Tool

The HP Smart app includes a built-in tool to fix scanning issues:

  • Open the app > Click the Wrench icon (bottom left) > Select Diagnose & Fix
  • Follow prompts to resolve scanner detection issues

Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Imaging Devices
  • Ensure two entries appear for the scanner (e.g., “HP HP...”, “HP...”)
  • If only one appears, wait 2–3 minutes or restart the PC

Try Network Scanning (if USB fails)

If USB scanning still fails, try scanning over Wi-Fi:

  • Ensure printer is connected to the same network
  • Use HP Smart or Windows Fax and Scan to initiate scan
