Hi @702dwilbur

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart app is not scanning or the scanner option doesn't work, there could be a few different reasons for this, such as driver issues, connectivity problems, or settings misconfigurations. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer and Scanner Connection

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to your computer (via USB or Wi-Fi). If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure that both the printer and the computer are on the same network.
  • Try printing a document to check that the printer itself is functioning properly.
  • If you're using a USB connection, try plugging it into a different port on your computer.

2. Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Restart your printer: Turn it off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer: Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve connectivity or software issues.

3. Check the HP Smart App

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store (for Windows) or App Store (for macOS).
  • If the issue persists, uninstall the app and reinstall it.

4. Update Printer Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager (on Windows):
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Imaging Devices or Printers section and find your printer.
    3. Right-click your printer and select Update Driver.
    4. Select Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.

I hope this helps.
