Hi @mac829,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 is having trouble scanning, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • If you are using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715. Visit the HP official website to download and install the latest drivers for your operating system.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Verify that there are no issues with the scanning software on your computer. If necessary, reinstall the scanning software.

Scan from the Printer:

  • Try initiating the scan directly from the printer's control panel. Follow the printer's user manual for instructions on how to do this.

Verify Scanner Settings:

  • Ensure that the scanner settings are configured correctly. Check the scanning resolution, file format, and destination folder settings.

Check for Errors on the Printer:

  • Check the printer's display for any error messages or prompts that may provide information about the scanning issue.

Security Software:

  • Temporary disable or configure your firewall and antivirus software to allow scanning. Sometimes, security software can block communication between the computer and the printer.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

Reinstall the Printer:

  • Remove the printer from your computer and reinstall it. This can be done through the "Devices and Printers" or "Printers & Scanners" section in your computer's settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
