Hi @Mare33,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your OfficeJet 4652 is showing a scanner failure and the copy function is not working, with repeated prompts to turn the printer off. Let’s go through a few checks to help you decide whether this is fixable or if replacement is the better option.

Perform a full power reset
Turn the printer on, then unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer and the wall.
Wait at least 60 seconds, reconnect the cord directly to a wall outlet, and power it back on.

Check the scanner mechanism
Lift the scanner lid and make sure there is no paper, debris, or obstruction around the scanner bar.
Close the lid firmly and try making a copy again.

Test copy without the computer
Place a document on the scanner glass and press the Copy button on the printer.
If copying fails, the issue is hardware-related and not caused by drivers or software.

Run printer self-test (if accessible)
If the control panel responds, try printing a printer status or information page.
If printing works but scanning and copying fail, the scanner unit is the problem.

Update or reset printer firmware (if printer stays on)
Restart the printer and allow it to fully initialize.
If available, update firmware using HP software to rule out firmware corruption.

I hope this helps.
