Hi @bschra,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your scanner has stopped working after switching to the new HP Smart app, and you’re noticing that it now asks for Bluetooth even though your printer doesn’t support it. Let’s go through a few steps to get your scanning function working again.

a. Confirm Printer Connection Type

If your printer doesn’t have Bluetooth, it should still work perfectly via Wi-Fi or USB.

Make sure your printer and computer/phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network or connected via USB cable.

b. Reinstall the HP Smart App

Uninstall the current HP Smart app from your computer or mobile device.

Download and reinstall it from the Microsoft Store, App Store, or Google Play Store.

During setup, skip Bluetooth if prompted and select “Set up using Wi-Fi” or “USB connection” instead.

c. Add the Printer Manually

Open HP Smart → Add Printer.

Choose Set Up a New Printer or Add Existing Printer.

Select your printer from the list (it should appear automatically if on the same network).

d. Use the Built-in Scan Tool (if needed)

On Windows: Open HP Scan (search for it in the Start menu).

On macOS: Open Image Capture or Preview → File → Import from Scanner.

These tools don’t require Bluetooth and work through Wi-Fi or USB.

e. Check Printer Firmware & App Updates

Open the HP Smart app → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings.

Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date, as recent updates restore full scan functionality without Bluetooth.

f. Restart Devices

Restart both your printer and computer/phone to refresh the connection after setup.

I hope this helps.
