I have an HP office jet 4650.  When I scan or print the pages come out perfect.  When I copy they come out with vertical ink lines?

Hi @john198808,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues specifically with the copying function of your HP OfficeJet 4650, where vertical ink lines appear on copies but not on prints or scans. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Check for Ink Smudges or Dirt

  • Clean the Scanner Glass: Open the scanner lid and clean the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner. Dirt or ink residue on the glass can cause lines to appear on copies.
  • Clean the Copy Feed Rollers: If you’re using the automatic document feeder (ADF), check and clean the rollers inside the feeder to ensure they are free of debris.

Align the Print Cartridges

  • Print Cartridge Alignment: Go to the printer’s control panel, access the settings, and select the option to align the print cartridges. This can help ensure that the print cartridges are correctly aligned, which can affect copy quality.

Check the Copy Settings

  • Adjust Copy Settings: Sometimes, adjusting the copy settings (like contrast and quality) might resolve issues related to quality. Ensure you’re using the correct settings for the type of document you’re copying.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Update Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. Visit HP’s support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Reinstall Drivers: If updating doesn’t help, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer drivers.

Reset Printer

  • Perform a Hard Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a reset can resolve temporary issues.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not leaking. If you suspect a problem with a cartridge, consider replacing it with a new one.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, there could be a more complex problem with the printer’s internal hardware or firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
