Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

My scanner is super slow and just started having printing problems too. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, searching for help, trying to get updates (hp website seems to only support windows), updating Mac software. Scanner will pause for 20 minutes after first page and then scan about a page every 5 minutes and continually goes offline. The printer has just started having problems too

Hi @Copper2561,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it must feel when your scanner drags, and your printer falters right after reinstalling or updating, everything grinds to a halt. Let’s tackle this step by step to help you regain speed and reliability.

1. Verify Connection & Power

  • Ensure the printer is plugged in firmly, powered on, and connected to your Mac (via USB or stable Wi‑Fi).
  • For wireless setups, power cycle your router, then the printer and Mac to clear any hiccups.

2. Reset the Mac Printing System

This clears driver conflicts and backlog issues:

  1. Go to Apple Menu → System Preferences → Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click in the device list and choose Reset printing system…
  3. Re-add your printer once it restarts.

3. Use Mac’s Native Scan Tools

Instead of relying on HP Smart, try Image Capture or Preview:

  • Launch Image Capture, select your printer, adjust resolution to 150‑200 DPI, and scan.
  • These tools are often much faster and more reliable.

4. Optimize Scan Settings

Slow scans often result from:

  • High DPI or uncompressed color settings – switch to 150–200 DPI and grayscale/BW for documents.
  • Large file formats – use compressed PDF for multi-page scans.

5. Reduce Software Overhead

HP App can be sluggish:

  • Close background apps and ensure the HP App is up to date.
  • Alternatively, delete the HP App and scan using Image Capture for better performance.

6. Update Firmware & Drivers

Outdated firmware or drivers can cripple performance:

  • Visit the Official HP® Support and download the latest firmware and Mac driver for your model.
  • Install, restart your Mac and printer, then test again.

7. Quick Restart After Changes

  • After adjustments, turn everything OFF, unplug for 30–60 seconds, then turn back on.
  • This refreshes connections and settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
