@Elvis79, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Vertical Lines When Scanning!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your scanned document is appearing as vertical lines and not showing the actual content, this may be due to several reasons. Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue for your HP ENVY 4500 printer:

Check the Scanner Glass

  1. Clean the scanner glass: Dirt or smudges on the scanner glass can interfere with the scanning process.
    • Lift the lid on the printer.
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the glass. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Check the Original Positioning

  1. Ensure the original document is correctly placed:
    • Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.
    • Make sure the lid is properly closed.

Scan Settings

  1. Adjust scan settings: Incorrect scan settings might cause issues.
    • From your computer, open the printer software.
    • Click the Print & Scan icon, and then select Scan a Document or Photo.
    • Select Show Scan Preview to make adjustments to the scanned image.

Software Update

  1. Update the printer software:

Wireless Scanning Issue

  1. Enable wireless scanning: If you are scanning wirelessly, ensure that wireless scanning is enabled in the printer software.
    • Open the printer software, select Print & Scan, and then select Manage Scan to Computer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
