We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

hp3272 print/scan functions but output is all black. as if original is not being illuminated

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3772 scanner light is not turning on, which is why scanned or copied documents appear completely black. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
  4. Turn the printer back on and try scanning or copying again.

Check for Scanner Light Activation

  • Lift the scanner lid and initiate a copy job. Observe if the scanner light turns on.
  • If the scanner light does not illuminate, the scanner hardware may be faulty.

 Perform a Scanner Test via HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only).
  2. Select your printer and click Fix Scanning to detect and repair issues.

Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware and Drivers

  1. Go to HP Support page – Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your printer model HP DeskJet 3772.
  3. Download and install the latest firmware and full feature driver package.
  4. Restart your PC and printer.

Perform a Factory Reset on the Printer

  1. Restore Defaults:
    • Press and hold Wi-Fi + Cancel for about 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
    • Wait for the printer to restart.
  2. Set up the printer again and check if scanning/copying works.

Test Copying in Different Modes

  • Try copying a document in black & white and color mode.
  • If the black & white copy is black, but color works, the scanner light might have a hardware failure.
