Hi @JP30131

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing that—it’s understandably frustrating when a reliable scan-to-email workflow suddenly breaks, especially when everything was working smoothly just a week ago.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to help restore your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw’s ability to scan and attach to email via your Windows 11 PC.

1. Restart Devices and Network

  • Power off your printer, PC, and router.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then power them back on—router first, then printer, then PC.
  • This refreshes network assignments and clears temporary glitches.

2. Check HP Scan Software Installation

3. Verify Scan-to-Email Setup

  • Open HP Scan → Choose Scan to Email.
  • If prompted, configure your email profile:
    • Use SMTP settings for your email provider (e.g., Gmail, Outlook).
    • Ensure authentication is enabled and credentials are correct.
  • If the error appears during this step, note the exact message—it helps isolate the cause.

4. Check Windows Firewall and Antivirus

  • Go to Control PanelWindows Defender FirewallAllow an app through firewall.
  • Ensure HP Scan, HP Smart, and ScanToEmail.exe are allowed.
  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software and retry the scan.

5. Use Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • On the printer’s control panel, find its IP address.
  • Enter that IP in your browser to open the Embedded Web Server.
  • Navigate to Scan → Scan to Email Setup.
  • Configure or test email profiles directly from the printer interface.

6. Try Scanning to File First

  • Open HP Scan → Choose Scan to File.
  • Save the scan locally, then manually attach it to your email.
  • This helps confirm whether the issue is with scanning or email integration.

Once these steps are complete, try scanning again and see if the email attachment process works smoothly. If the error persists, please share the exact wording of the message you’re seeing—I’ll guide you further based on that.

You're close to restoring full functionality.
