Scanner works but when scanning a large document it deletes all the previously scanned pages once it reaches around 44 pages.

Many thanks for the detailed response. I received a call from a very helpful HP representative, and they suggested to search for "HPScan. This provided another option for managing the scan other than HP Smart and this option worked without any hang ups. Managed the whole 52 pages without a flaw. I will continue to use this option instead of HP Smart when I have larger jobs.
