@stefan20255, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Ink Tank 315 printer is having issues with scanning via the HP Smart app, follow these detailed troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem:

1. Ensure Proper Setup

  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to the network and powered on.
  • Ensure the HP Smart app is up to date on your device.

2. Check the Printer Connection

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device.

3. Enable Webscan (if needed)

Sometimes, the Webscan feature is required for scanning using the HP Smart app.

  1. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of the printer.
    • For more information on accessing EWS, refer to your printer’s user manual.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. In the Security section, click Administrator Settings.
  4. Select Webscan to enable it.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Now try scanning using the HP Smart app again.

4. Use HP Smart App Correctly

To scan using the HP Smart app:

  1. Load the original print-side up into the document feeder, or load the original print-side down near the icon at the corner of the scanner glass.
  2. Open the HP Smart app.
  3. Click the image of your printer to access its settings and management tools.
  4. Under Tools, click on Scan.

5. Tips for Successful Scanning

  • Keep the glass and the back of the lid clean: The scanner interprets anything it detects on the glass as part of the image.
  • Correctly place the original document: Load the original print-side down near the icon at the corner of the scanner glass.
  • Ensure brightness settings in the software are appropriate: This avoids incorrect or missing scanned text.

6. Update Printer Firmware

Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app under the printer settings.

7. Restart Printer and Device

Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off your printer and device, wait for a few minutes, and then power them back on.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
