when I click on the HP Scan icon on my computer screen, nothing happens.  the HP scan page does not come up

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly—and I’m genuinely sorry the HP Scan icon isn’t responding when clicked. Since this is a common behavior when the scanning utility is mislinked or partially installed, let’s walk through a focused recovery sequence to restore full scan functionality.

Step-by-Step: Fix HP Scan Not Opening

1. Use the HP App for Scanning

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
  • Select your printer > Scan > Scan Document or Photo.
  • If the scan window doesn’t open, proceed to reinstall the app.

The HP App now handles all scanning, printing, and maintenance tasks.

 

2. Reinstall the HP App

This ensures the latest version is installed and properly linked to your printer.

 

3. Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right-click > Properties > set Startup type to Automatic.
  • Click Start if the service is stopped.

WIA is essential for scanner communication in Windows.

 

4. Use HP Diagnostics Hub 

Download from:  HP Diagnostics Hub

Run the tool and follow prompts to detect and fix scan-related issues.

This replaces the retired Print and Scan Doctor with a modern diagnostic interface.
