First, can I use Windows 10?   Second, I'm scanning an old photo ( 1957 )  and 4 and a half by 3 and a quarter size. Every time I scan a photo it comes out about 30% smaller than the original. Is there HP software to allow me to resize and adjust the photo the way I want?  Thanks

The software is from 2015 - it is rated for Windows 10 - you may still be able to use it on the latest versions of Windows 10.

What?  Windows 10 is not the same animal it was in 2015 - much has changed.  Depending on several factors (including exact version of "10", relative health of your File System), the printer software might do just fine.

Your Printer Software:

The Basics

HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows)

  • The feature you want:  Scan the photo at "actual size" with the borders of the object intact (as in the original).
  • If your printer software cannot detect and grab the photo boundaries to scan in the file "at size",
  • Consider adding the HP Scan Extended software.

Link / Download:  HP Scan Extended

Download, save, and install to use.  Exceptional free HP scan program:  HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary).  May include OCR (Save as Editable Text).

NOTES

  • HPSE is an older subset of the printer software; features are very similar to scan software included in 2015 or newer Full Feature Software packages.
  • If you have the newer version of the scan software inside your Full Feature Software, use that: Printer Assistant shortcut icon on Desktop (named for printer) > Scan a document or image (wording varies).
  • Although the HPSE program works as a separate program, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the printer software. The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing HPSE.
  • OPTIONAL: Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
    • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
    • Right-Clickexe > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start

Place your photo(s) on the printer glass

Open the HPSE software

Set the Page Size = Auto Detect Size

Set other options, including those in the More > sub-menus

When ready, click Scan
