Hi @joannabal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • This can reset any temporary software glitch that might be causing the scanner error.

Perform a Power Reset:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and try scanning again.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Open the scanner lid and check for any paper or objects that might be blocking the scanner mechanism.
  • Ensure the scanner glass and the surrounding area are clean.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Reset the Printer’s Settings:

  • Resetting the printer to its default settings can sometimes resolve persistent issues. Consult the printer's manual for instructions on how to do a factory reset.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables are securely connected. If using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is properly connected to the network.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

I hope this helps.
