Hi @Settee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer is showing a "computer not found" message when you try to scan to your Dell laptop, it typically indicates a connectivity issue between the printer and the computer. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Network Connection

  • Verify that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, devices on different networks can’t communicate with each other.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router to refresh the network connection.

2. Verify Printer and Computer Connectivity

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Wireless Settings and ensure that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Reconnect if necessary.
  • Ensure that your laptop is connected to the network and can access the internet.

3. Update or Reinstall HP Software

  • Make sure you have the HP Smart app installed on your laptop. It helps with scanning and managing printer settings.
  1. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest version of the printer software and drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715.
  2. Uninstall the current HP software from your laptop.
  3. Install the downloaded software and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Add Printer to Your Computer

Add Printer Using Windows Settings:

  1. On your Dell laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click Add a printer or scanner and wait for Windows to detect your printer. If it appears, select it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Add Printer Using HP Smart:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.
  2. Click on + to add a new printer. Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your laptop.

5. Check Scanner Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app or the scanning software installed on your laptop.
  • Ensure the scanner is correctly configured to recognize your printer. Sometimes, you may need to select your printer manually from the list of available devices.

6. Firewall and Security Software:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block communication between the printer and your laptop.
  • Temporarily disable these programs and see if you can connect. If this resolves the issue, you may need to adjust the settings to allow communication between your printer and laptop.

7. Perform Printer and Laptop Reboot

  • Restart Both Devices:
    • Turn off your printer and laptop, wait for a few moments, and then turn them back on. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
