I need to know how to prevent vertical black line from running vertically down my entire document when scanning. This doesn't happen when I make copies. I know the glass is clean . I have a new drum &  ink cartridge in.  Any suggestions?

Hi @Nursesue22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with the vertical black line appearing when scanning documents, but not when copying, suggests that the problem is likely related to the scanning mechanism itself rather than the printing components like the drum or ink cartridge. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Clean the Scanner Glass and ADF Path: Although you mentioned the glass is clean, it's worth double-checking not just the main glass but also the small strip of glass (often on the far left or right side) that is used exclusively by the automatic document feeder (ADF) for scanning. This area can often be overlooked and might have smudges, dust, or other debris that can cause lines on scanned images.

Check the ADF Mechanism: If you are using the automatic document feeder, ensure there’s no debris, small pieces of paper, or even dust in the path of the ADF. Sometimes, even a tiny speck on the rollers or sensors can cause lines during scanning.

Inspect for Damage: Look for any scratches or damage to the glass or the scanning path, especially the smaller strip used for ADF scanning. Any imperfections here can cause repeated lines down your scans.

Update or Reinstall Scanner Drivers: Sometimes, scanner drivers can become corrupted or outdated

Test the Scanner Sensor: It's possible that the scanning sensor (if separate from the main printer/copier unit) is malfunctioning. If your device allows, try running a scanner calibration or diagnostic tool available from the printer's control panel or software on your computer.
