I want save and print the absolute best quality photos from the HP 2640 scanner. Time to scan is not an issue. What should I use for dpi and compression for the best possible prints?

Its specs

It supports Up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. But for normal day-to-day tasks, 300dpi for A4 is a good setup. You can set it up 600dpi for A3 printing.

My first request since joining the community and it was answered quickly and satisfactorily. I have continued changing settings and comparing pictures and your answer seems to be exactly what I am finding with my own research. 300 dpi seems perfectly acceptable for most situations. The pictures are almost comparable to 1200 dpi and take much less memory to store. Low compression, though, seems to give a much better copy than High compression. Thank you, Banhein, for your response and your knowledge. You were concise and to the point and correct.
