Hi @Tony686,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printing issues on HP MFP 3101!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Printer Default Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer is set up for printing as its default function. You can verify this by accessing the printer's settings menu either through the printer control panel or the printer software installed on your computer.

Ensure Correct Function is Selected:

  • When initiating a print job, make sure you are selecting the "Print" function rather than "Fax" on your software or printer menu. Sometimes, buttons or icons might be close together and selecting the wrong one could route you to fax options.

Inspect Print Driver Settings:

  • It’s possible that your print driver settings are aligned incorrectly. Go to the printer properties on your computer and check that the default action is set to ‘Print’ and not ‘Fax’.

Printer Software:

  • If you’re using a software interface to print, make sure the correct function is selected before sending your print job.

Verify Cable Connections:

  • If your printer has fax capabilities, ensure that there's no interference with fax settings from any connected phone lines.

Restart and Reset:

  • Turn off your printer completely, unplug it from the power source, wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Sometimes a reset can resolve configuration mishaps.

I hope this helps.
