Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I am only able to scan documents in the "Color" setting within both the HP Easy Scan application and in the "Scan" function of OS X.  The "Black and White" or "Text" setting do not produce a scan.  I installed the latest print driver.  The driver version in OS X shows 2.0.

@slicksleeve, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Have you tried using the Apple Image Capture?

The software or driver needs to be updated. Try the solutions below, and then try to add your printer to HP Easy Scan.

  • Update HP Easy Scan: Open HP Easy Scan. On the upper bar, click HP Easy Scan, click Check for Updates, and then install any available updates.

Checking for updates in HP Easy Scan

  • Reinstall the print drivers: Click the Apple menu , click System Preferences, and then click Printers and Scanners. Right-click or control-click the blank space in the list of printers, and then click Reset printing system. After resetting the printing system, go to 123.hp.com, search for your printer, and then install the recommended software.

Refer to the document HP Printers - How to Scan (Mac)  to learn about alternate scanning methods.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Unfortunately, still no luck.  Apple Image Capture is what I have used but I still can't scan using the text or black and white option.  There is no "Check for Updates" pull down in the HP Easy Scan menu but I just downloaded the app a few days ago from the app store.  123.hp.com does not show software for my printer.  I even tried downloading the app with no luck.  I tried reseting the printing system and installing the latest software I found elsewhere on the HP website with no luck.  The general information in OS X still shows Driver Version 2.0.
