HP MFP M477fdn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

PLEASE HELP! I did everything that other forum posts suggest and nothing seems to work.

Error: While scanning to email from MFP M477fdn all in one laser printer I get the following error:

cannot resolve the smtp server. check the smtp and dns server settings with your system administrator or internet service provider.

Email service: Gmail

Here's what I have tried:

  • I have turned ON allow access to less secure apps in Gmail

  • Scan to email -> Outgoing email profile
    Your email address: <myemail>@gmail.com
    Display Name: <my name>
    SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: tried 465 and 587
Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS): Tried checking and unchecking - made no difference
    UserID: <myemail>@gmail.com
    Password: <password>

  • Networking -> Network Identification
    Primary: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary: 8.8.4.4

I have updated the drivers on the printer as well.
What else am I missing? Please help!

About not resolving via DNS: I found out that I HAD to fill in the DNS server in the printer settings, as setting "default" didn't seem to work. In my printer (M281fdw) I've set the DNS to my home routers IP-address in Networking, Network identification, DNS Primary (IPv4). I hope this helps!
