HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot scan on Laserjet 1200w using the 'HP smart' application (Windows 10). I get the message, that scanning is not available now. Only printing works correctly.

Scanning on this device works OK only if I use 'HP-Scan', 'Windows Scan' or 'Windows Fax and Scan' applications.

I tried to uninstall and install again the 'HP smart' application several times. Nothing helps.

'HP Print and Scan Doctor (ver. 5.3)' says everything is OK with scanning.

Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is enabled.

Any ideas ?

@Neticus

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Alas, this didn't help.

All the same: Scanning from "HP Smart" does not work. Only printing works OK.

I still can scan using other HP and Windows applications, so this is the solution for us.

Thank you very much for your help!

Another question to you:

Is there any Chance to get the driver for this printer/scanner for Windows Vista 32-bit.

We have got one such old (but valuable) computer here and it would be great if this one could also print on this printer. Just printing. Scanning is not needed in this case. Could also be over the USB-cable. All other computers use WiFi and Windows 10.

We know, that HP does not support Win Vista any more. But still… Maybe any driver, e.g. for a different printer, would be suitable?

Thank you in advance!

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

There is no possibility of "Windows update" when installing a new driver on Windows Vista. One can use only the printers, which are on the list. And the list is very old. You cannot update it !

Maybe I could install a driver for any other HP printer, which would suit/fit the Neverstop 1200w ?

I need just simple printing (PS or PCL).

Thank you

You could try a Universal Print Driver: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/solutions/business-solutions/printingsolutions/upd.html

Unfortunately there is no such one for Windows Vista 😞

Thank you!

We wouldn't have any drivers then. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.
