FAX component damaged

My Fax does not work.  The printer gives me the message "The printer's FAX component has become damaged & cannot perform the FAX test."

That sounds ominous.

There is exactly one suggestion to fix this - well, two if you count contacting Support.

Fax component has become damaged and cannot perform the fax test: Perform a hard reset, which can resolve fax hardware issues. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet. Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the cord, and then try faxing again. If the error persists, contact HP Customer Support for options.
