HP - what have you done to your scanning engine???
Scanned the same doc with your newer Officejet pro 9010 and my old Officejet pro8710. (8718)
The results with the new printer are AWFUL - I wish it were not the case.
JPEG artefacts everywhere.
300 dpi looks like epson (10 year old Perfection) 200dpi or even 150dpi.
Nowhere to improve any pre-loaded compression settings (except I have this on "low" compression already.)
Tried your software, mac preview and an old HP scan software. All with the same BAD results. Tried scan to jpeg, tiff, and pdf - all with the same POOR results.
Its a real shame because on the rest of the printer the features seem pretty solid.
See these results. The bad ones are the 9010 - zoom in for an ugly surprise!

If I can find a better all in one then I'm taking this one back. I've only had it for 4 hours!
If you want to print then its ok. But if you want to scan, then wait until HP re-write their image compression software.
