HP Easy Scan will no longer scan from the Glass after upgrade to OS Catalina. I get a message "Automatic document Feeder is Empty" ... even though the document is on the glass.

I've been told there will be software update coming for both HP Easy Scan and OS Catalina ... but I've been waiting over two months now.

Suggestions?

Hi @GrandpaEDDY

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue.

HP Easy Scan is currently not fully compatible with macOS Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. Scan using Apple Image Capture as a workaround.

Hi @asmita6658 I appreciate your response and will use this workaround until HP Easy Scan full functionality is restored. I hope that is soon!!

Check this out. I have scanned several times since the upgrade to MAC OS X Catalina, and all of a sudden today, it says the error message noted previously. Thus, it is not an upgrade to Catalina problem, if it was working with it before. What is really going on?  This is HP and APPLE we are talking about. Getting an app that has worked for YEARS to recognize a document on a scanner is not something non-sheeple will tolerate as sufficient. What is the problem, and when is it going to be fixed?

Technical jargon is ok, let's hear it.

If your experience is that HP Easy Scan continued to work after the upgrade to Catalina ... that would suggest that the issue with HP  ...  not Apple. I've been told verbally that "HP is actively working with Apple to solve the issue". Any time I've called in to HP since late September 2019 ... that is what I've been told. At one point I was also told that HP Easy Scan would automatically update when a fix is put in place. That hasn't happened yet.

I am disappointed that HP / Apple have not solved this yet. I accepted their response AS A WORKAROUND ONLY. Using the workaround I am able to scan virtually anything. HOWEVER ... HP Easy Scan (when it is working) has much more functionality than the workaround ... and I am still waiting for HP to get it fixed. I'm starting to have doubts about whether they are actually working on it.

macOS 10.15.3 (released 1/28/2020) contains the fix for this issue.  Once updated HP Easy Scan will be able to scan from the glass or the ADF as normal.

Scan to Computer is also fixed with 10.15.3.

I did notice that if the printer is in sleep mode, some times an error will be reported.  But if you wake the printer by inserting a page in the ADF or touching the screen you will be able to scan normally.

While I may work for HP Inc, the views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Thank You IronBadger. I had to wait a few days before the update to the Mac OS was available. After installing the update I was able to scan a couple different documents from the glass (which is what I wasn't able to do) ... and I've also been able to scan from the ADF.

I've also had the experience of needing to "wake up" the printer by inserting a document in the ADF or touching the screen. Sometimes those things don't work and I have to do a re-boot of the printer ... sometimes a reboot of the printer and the computer. Although these are somewhat of an inconvenience, it solves the problem.

So as far as I can tell ... the issue is resolved.
