OfficeJet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

According to the specifications the OfficeJet Pro 8620 offers a scan resolution up to 1200 dpi, but the scan software only offers up to 300 dpi. How can I scan at a higher resolution than 300 dpi?

Thank you for your response.

Hi,

The Automaric Document Feeder allow scanning up to 300 DPI, to scan higher resolutions you will need to use the Flatbed Glass.

Place your document on the glass and open the HP Scan software, change the source as Flatbed Glass instead the default (Use ADF If Loaded), then you will be provided with the option to select an higher resolution.

Thnx! Why isn't this in the manual?

I just bought this printer today (the 8625 from Costco actually) and wondered the same thing.

Any idea why HP would do this? As a former HP software engineer myself (why I always buy HP) this seems like a really stupid thing! Why limit the scan resolution when using the ADF? I would guess that if I selected a higher resolution it would take longer to scan. But, so what? Shouldn't that be the choice of the user?

Thanks!
Larry.

I thought I'd found the solution to the appalling resolution, especially when scanning photographs. The firmware has clearly been updated since the previous posts, changing from feeder to flatbed makes no difference whatsoever. I've tried every active link on the screen to get a resolution selection routine and none appears in either mode now.

What a useless piece of equipment! Useless documentation too.

I'll resurrect the Epson it replaced - half the price & 10 times better!
