We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have used the HP print and scan doctor several times.  It always stops at the device driver and says the computer cannot communicate with the scanner.  The printer is working fine other than not being able to scan.  I followed all the instructions (twice) to unplug (I removed the battery), wait, replug.  Nothing.  I downloaded new firmware.  No help.  I downloaded all the drivers.  No.  I downloaded only the scanner driver.  No.  I went into Windows to see if Windows Image Aquisition (WIA) was enabled and it is.  

It worked fine two days ago.  Nothing has changed.  Also tried Windows scan.  It says no scanner is attached to the computer.  Went to the app store, as suggested by the HP virtual assistant, to look for an HP scan app.  They only have one for Windows 8.1 not Windows 10.  I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Are you able to copy?

 

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

 

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

 

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

I just discovered how to respond to a reply.

 

The first step 15 steps says, " In Windows, search for and open Programs and features".   

You cannot type this into the search bar.  It is found by going through the Control Panel.   

The second step says, "Select your HP Printer".   

The third step says to uninstall it.   There is nothing labeled HP Printer.  There are five different things listed under HP:

 

1.  HP Dropbox Plugin

2.  HP Google Drive Plugin

3.  HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Scan Software

4.  HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series Basic Device Software

5.  HP officeJet 250 Mobile Series Help

 

Am I supposed to delete and reinstall all of these?  I have already reinstalled just the scan software but that did not help.  We have very limited internet and if all of these, especially Basic Device Software must be reloaded, it will be several months before I can get to a place where the internet can handle that kind of download.

 

The printer will copy and print.  It will not scan.

All the Printer related drivers can be removed. This is driver/software issue as you can copy from the Printer which proves the Printer's hardware functionality.

 

Do try the steps and let us know what happens.

 

If the issue perissts, these are the other ways of scanning:

 

  • HP Smart app (Windows 10): Search the Microsoft Store for HP Smart to find and install this app. For more information, go to Using the HP Smart App (Windows 10).

  • HP Scan and Capture app (Windows 10, 😎: Scan documents or photos from the printer or webcam. A full feature print driver must be installed on the computer. For more information, go to Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 8 and 10).

  • Windows Scan app (Windows 10, 😎: Search the Microsoft Store for windows scan to find and install this app.

  • Microsoft Paint (All Windows versions): Search Windows for paint, and then open the Paint desktop app. Click File or the menu icon  , and then click From scanner or camera.

  • Windows Fax and Scan (All Windows versions): Search Windows for fax to open the desktop app, and then click New Scan.

  • Webscan utility (network printers): Obtain the printer IP address and use it to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a web browser. On your printer's website, click Webscan on the Scan tab.

Where, exactly, would I find all of the printer drivers?  I emailed at list of what is shown under programs on my computer.  None of those five say anything about drives.
