Hello,

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't scan properly, either from the document feeder or the flatbed. The scans show up almost completely blank, although some faint outlines are barely visible along the top. Two computers use the scanner (Mac OS X 10.6.8 and 10.7.5) and both are having the same problem. Any suggestions would be great!

Hi ABverr,

A hard reset may resolve this issue.  To do this, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.  Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.  After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet and then plug it into the back of the printer.  Try a scan.

If that didn't help, I have linked a document that has steps for correcting scan quality problems.  Click Here

If still having problems, you can download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  Click Here  Let me know the results.

Good Luck !

Quick fix may be to connect power directly to wall outlet, not surge protector.  May not be getting enough juice to scan to computer.

The unplugging worked great! I've had this machine for 3 months and never had any problems, Glad the fix was pretty easy. Thanks Rich.

I just purchased the HP 8600 Pro this afternoon and installed it with a Mac desktop running Maverick.  I have the same problem that I get blank scanned pages from the autofeeder but great single page scans from the bed.  I have tried doing a hard power reset on the printer but that has not made any difference.

HP used to be such a great company, but now neither hardware nor software of any consumer product that I have tried over the last few years ever works out of the box.  Whoever wrote the HP scan panel interface to the computer out to be flogged.

Hi suntrough,

I understand you're experiencing some scanning issues when scanning using the automatic document feeder (ADF) on your Officejet Pro 8600. I'm sorry to hear this has been happening but I will do my best to assist you.

I would first check to see if you can make a copy using the feeder on your printer. If that works, then we know it's something caused by the software or perhaps the connection. However, if it doesn't work then that would indicate that it's an issue with the hardware of the printer. If the copy doesn't work I would also suggest plugging the printer directly to a wall outlet to make sure it has enough power to function properly.

To help you further I would need to know the specific model of 8600 you have, what version of Mac you're running on your computer, and if it's connected via USB or wirelessly.

Hope to hear back from you soon, have a great day!!

Totally agree. I have had nothing but one interface issue after another with my HP Envy printer.  Once I fix one thing something else starts to glitch. Its ridiculous.
