I updated to Catalina 10.15.1 and did nothing to my printer. Now my printer will not scan from the flatbed. Throw my hp 8620 away? it only needs a software update. Maybe we can add that to CO2 demerit points for HP?

@FrankTUD, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you using HP Easy Scan?

HP Easy Scan is not yet compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. HP is working with Apple to release a compatible version soon. Refer to this document for more info.

For now, let us try these steps:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click here to know how.

Scan with Apple Image Capture

Apple Image Capture comes with macOS and OS X and provides a quick and simple way to scan.

 Apple Image Capture

  1. Place the document or photo print side down on the scanner glass, and then close the scanner lid.

If your printer has an automatic document feeder (ADF), use it to scan multiple page documents at one time.

CAUTION: Do not load photos in the ADF.
  2. Open Finder , and then click Go in the top menu bar.

  3. Click Applications, and then double-click Image Capture.

  4. Click your printer name in the Devices or Shared list.

NOTE: If a Software for this device is not installed message displays after you select your printer, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  5. Click Show Details at the bottom of the screen.

A preview of the scan displays, and then change any of the following settings:

    • Scan Mode: Select the scanning bed or automatic document feeder.

    • Kind: Set scan as color, black and white, or optimized for text only documents.

    • Resolution: Higher resolution produces better quality images by using more dots (pixels) per inch. Higher resolution increases the file size of the scan. Use a higher resolution for scans with graphics or items that require the best detail. If you are scanning black and white text, higher resolution is not necessary.

    • Size: Use a standard paper size or select the Use Custom Size option.

    • Scan to: Select the folder you want scans to save to or use the Mail option to attach the scan to an Apple Mail email message.

    • Name: Type a name for the saved scan file.

    • Format: Select the file type for the scan.

NOTE: To save multiple page documents or multiple images into a single file, select the PDF or TIFF format, and then select the box next to Combine into single document. This feature is only available with these formats.
    • Image Correction: Click the pop-up menu, and then select Manual to display color change options such as brightness and saturation.

  6. Click Scan.

Let me know how this goes.

@DavidDelco, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you using a HP Officejet 8620 printer?

What happens when you scan using the Apple Image Capture?

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Alternatively, you may also use HP Smart app for scanning and printing from the MAC

For more info on the app, refer to this document.

Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar0307,

Thank you for your rapid answer!

Yes I use HP Officejet Pro 8620.

The scan via Mac Image Capture is OK and stand alone copy too!

I did disinstall all HP software from the mac and I did reinstall the new one...

The HP utility recognize the printer

Both HP Utility & HP Easy Scan softwares does run OK

From the printer front panel It is possible to Scan to: e-mail / net folder / to USB device BUT

NOT TO TE COMPUTER!

Window appear: HP Scan request handler - Prepare to scan

Nothing change....  the front panel of the printer will display an error message.

When I try to shut down the windows on my screen nothing... it will display again.

I will work on this now...

Thank you! David

It sounds like Scan to Computer is disabled on your Mac. Enabling Scan to computer using HP Utility may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility. (If HP Utility is not available, download and install the install the printer essential software from here

2.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.

3.) Try to scan.

Let me know how this goes.

Hi Kumar0307,

Thank you...

No.. sorry... I forget to write that this feature is already active on my mac. I've checked scan options too, but nothing seem to be out of order!

I have checked the share options and activated both sharing by SMB & AFP.

Thank you

David

Do you have an Anti-virus program installed on the MAC?

If the above steps did not help, you may have to wait until the updated/supported version of HP Easy Scan for macOS 10.15 is released.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi,

Yes I have a Security Suite installed but I did have before updating to Catalina...

Do I provide special exception for the firewall for HP Scan Request Handler??

Thank you.

David

That's correct. If you have an Anti-virus program, add an exception to the HP software/scan apps and try to scan again.

If the issue persists, you might have to wait for the HP Easy Scan.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
