The HP Scan 3.5 works better - it will scan pictures but the program must restart after each scan.  Also the scans are really slow, other scanning programs work fine, Microsoft Live Photo Gallery and Picasa 3 in particular.  I would prefer to use the HP program; it should take less steps to scan.

any ideas?

thanks

dan

I am experiencing a similar problem.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (upgraded from Vista), my printer is C7280 All-in-One.  When I first encountered the problem, I removed the HP software suite and reinstalled (PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140).  My network connectivity is good - the Digital Imaging Monitor responds to printer's scan button.  I am able to do a single scan, but the scanning software encounters an error (below).  I cannot do a second scan because hardware appears to be in use.   The first scan I do is doc to pdf.

I am also getting hp " hp scan application has stopped working" on my clean windows 7 system... also running 64bit.  Any ideas?  I have a HP 7280.

and add me in too. My stopped today and i have been hours now trying to install from the hp site c7280 win 7 , 64 bit os. I cannot get the scanner to scan, it will make a copy but take forever to print it. This is the same download i did back in dec when i got this computer and everything was fine. now all of a sudden the c7280 does not work and re downloading did not do anything. Is this how hp is pushing sales up. Send out some update to break our stuff and get us to buy another. I paid like $400. for this printer and it is 2 years old and i will not buy another HP if this is not fixed this week.

Guys,

I am interested in this thread and would like to ask you to try the fix that is posted for the Scanned files disappearing as it installs a new version of the Scan software that may help with this problem.

The fix is posted here

Can you reply to this tread telling if this helped at all.

Thanks

it did not work for me... as a matter of fact, it seemed to uninstall my scan function for the c7280.  Tks for trying!

matthewdhoward,

Could you please do multiple scans with MS-Paint? It should be using the same hpotiop5.dll.  It would be good to know if the problem is within the dll or how different scanning solutions are using the dll.

Thanks.

Thank you kindly for responding... not sure what you are asking... i reinstalled all the 7280 SW ( 64bit win7) after the patch seemed to make things worse.  To be clear, the scanning works... what happens is i get a pop-up window that the application has stopped working.  I close that window and the good news is the scan has been completed.  Clearly there is a bug.

I have a screen capture that i can email you...

matthewdhoward,

If the scan works and you are getting a crash, you are correct there is a defect somewhere.  Can you post your image to this thread as an attachment?  That way other can also see the screen capture.

Thanks.

Running Win 7 32 bit and have similar error as the the top of this list.

Officejet 6480, running Version 13.0 of the driver (just posted in January) using the scanner function with Picasa 3, Windows 7 Fax and Scan, and Paperport 12.

Works fine with Win 7 FAx and Scan but it uses its own scan module , not the HP scanning application.

Picasa 3 and Paperport both use the HP scanning application and both get the same error.  First it scans the document and displays it in the HP scan module.  Click on finish to deliver it to Picasa or Paperport and it will convert the image and it will appear in Picasa or Paperport just fine, but then HP scanning application pops up the error message that it has quit suddenly and provides the option of going on line to search for a solution or second option is to Close the HP scanning application.    Click on Close and everything is fine and I can go ahead and scan another doc with the same results.  So it is more of a nuisance than a big problem.

Didn't have the problem with Vista/Picasa3 or paperport.

Below is the details attached to the HP scanning application stopped error message:

No error when scanning with Win7 Fax and scan software module but of course it is not using eh
HP scanning module.
On line forum indicates others are havning the problem as well with different HP printers.
Mine is a Officejet J6480.  Fault module hpwtiop3.dll   which is different dll from some others on the HP forum.
