Until a few days ago, I could use the HP Smart app for Android to scan from my wireless printer directly to my Android 10 phone. All of the sudden, the HP Smart app says my printer doesn't have a scanner.

The scanner works fine from my laptop, but that is absolutely unworkable for multiple sequential scans, since I can't place the laptop near the scanner. Anyone else recognize this issue?

Yes, this can happen.

 

The usual fix is to remove (uninstall) the HP Smart Application from your Android device.

Perhaps (always good to) switch your device off for a few seconds - restart it.

Download and install a fresh copy of the HP Smart application.

Hi Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, uninstalling didn't do the trick. I uninstalled the HP Smart App and the HP Print Service Plugin and reinstalled them. The issue remained.

My printer is still listed as a supported printer:

My last successful scan was June 22nd, the Smart App was updated yesterday and since yesterday I can't scan anymore with the app. Which is why I strongly suspect the app itself.

OK - you could be right about it being a new version of the app and I'd never know.

 

My Android phone is old-as-dirt - it doesn't support much more than "phone calls".

Yeah, I know...

 

Completely useless to you:  My iPad still scans OK.

 

What else?

You could try restarting everything (printer, router, phone / tablet).

Just restarted the router and phone, but to no avail. I have also cleared the cache partition of my phone. By the way, my wife's phone (Note 9, Android 10) also can't scan with the Smart App anymore.
