Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's restore the fax setting son the Printer:

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ). 2. Touch Printer Maintenance . 3. Touch Restore. 4. Touch Restore Settings.

5. Select which function you would like to restore to the original factory settings: Select Fax

6. Touch Continue. A message appears stating that the settings will be restored. 7. Touch Yes.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you very much for that helpful information. After following those instructions unfortunately, did not resolve the problem. I actually ordered a model 6978 today to replace this unit as she gave me 4 good solid  years. So appreciated heareing back on this. Best.
