When I recently clicked on scan on the scanner, I got a message that the scanner was not connected to the computer.  I checked the drivers and they are all up to date.  The machine is connected to the network and works fine from my laptop, but the issue is with my desktop.  Everything worked fine in the past.  AT&T did have a massive problem in my area and needed to install a new modem if that could have anything to do with it (I have no idea how it could, but my knowledge is severely limited).  I don't scan that often, but when I need it I need it.  I have done everything I can find online and the HP site including the Scan and Print doctor (which couldn't communicate with the dvice) and am about ready to throw the dang thing out andbuy another.  Is uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it a possible solution, or would that risk losing the ability to print from the laptop?  Any advice anybody could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
