I have a new color laserjet Pro MFP M283FDW and I want to scan my ID card, front and back to a single file. Can this be done with HP Smart or do I need a different application?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Here's a suggestion, copy both sides and then scan the 1 page.

You can copy the ID card directly from the Front panel:

After the copy is down, both sides of the ID would be on one page, then simply use HP Smart to scan to a JPEG file.

For more suggestions on using the printer, this is useful.

Hope that helps!

Thanks. I had not yet noticed the ID copy feature. It is useful, but still not the same as scanning directly to a PDF. By scanning a copy, you lose a lot of quality. I have googled around and found that the old HP scan software used to allow scanning two sides to a PDF. Why is that feature gone? Or is it really gone?

Hi,

Was reading your message again and misunderstood that you wanted to scan the ID card to 1 file instead of 1 document as you stated!  My bad!

You can use HP Smart to scan the ID card, this resource shows you how:

Be sure to select the source as Scan glass instead of Automatic Document Feeder.

Alternatively, you can use the HP FULL software to scan 2 sides:

Hope that helps!
